Thorogood's history dates back to 1892 when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner, Joseph Peffer, serving "Jobbing" trades. The company has since gone through various milestones, including becoming a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I, introducing the "Job-fitted" concept, and creating the iconic Hike n' Camp boot that became the company's best-selling boot of all time.

In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, including six employees, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, featuring high-tech occupational safety footwear. In 2000, Weinbrenner employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP, and in 2014, the 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots was introduced.

Today, Thorogood celebrates 130 years as a company, with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI and the launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. The brand continues to gain popularity, and many new styles are on the horizon.
