Thorogood's Durable and Comfortable Work Boots: A Legacy of Quality
Rooted in American Craftsmanship
Thorogood's story begins in 1892, when a young Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his partner Joseph Peffer. The company, known as Albert H. Weinbrenner Co., quickly established itself as a leading supplier of "Jobbing" trades, marking the start of a rich heritage in American footwear manufacturing.
Over the decades, Thorogood has evolved, introducing innovative features and earning a reputation for quality. In 1916, the company printed its first catalog, boasting more leather-cutting machines than any other in the U.S. The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, and Thorogood became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I. The company's foray into safety footwear production began in 1938, and during World War II, it converted to producing all-military footwear.
A Commitment to Safety and Durability
Today, Thorogood's work boots are built to withstand the demands of the most challenging environments. Made with Crazyhorse full-grain leather, Vibram 1275 Olympia rubber outsoles, and a composite shank, these boots provide durable comfort and safety. The innovative Nano safety toe is thinner and lighter than traditional composite toes, keeping safety at the forefront without sacrificing comfort.
Slip and Electrical Hazard Resistance
Thorogood's work boots are designed to meet rigorous industry standards for slip resistance and electrical hazard protection. The footwear is tested to ASTM F3445 criteria for slip-resisting footwear, and the EVA/rubber outsole is engineered to withstand or reduce damage from oil. Additionally, the boots meet ASTM F2413 or ASTM F2892 electrical hazard resistance safety standards, ensuring protection against electrical currents.
Waterproof Protection
For all-day comfort, Thorogood's work boots feature a waterproof barrier that keeps water out, allowing you to tackle any job in any weather condition.
A Century of American-Made Excellence
Thorogood's commitment to quality and innovation is evident throughout its history. The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1992 with the slogan "A Century of Lasting Quality," and in 2000, Thorogood employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan).
As Thorogood celebrates its 130th year in business, the brand continues to evolve, opening a new factory in Merrill, Wisconsin, and launching its first western wear product, the Thorogood Square Toe Wellingtons. With a renewed focus on upgrading facilities, equipment, and manufacturing methods, Thorogood is poised to uphold its legacy of American-made excellence for generations to come.
