The Thorogood brand has a rich history dating back to 1892 when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with his partner, Joseph Peffer, serving the "Jobbing" trades. Over the years, the company has evolved, with significant milestones such as the formation of the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. in 1900, the printing of the first catalog in 1916, and the introduction of the "Job-fitted" concept in 1917. During World War I, Weinbrenner became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army.

In 1938, the company took its first steps into safety footwear production, and in 1942, it celebrated its 50th anniversary by converting to all-military footwear for the duration of World War II, producing combat and dress styles. Military footwear also became popular with civilians during this time. In 1943, the company's workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, and management and workers have maintained an outstanding relationship through the present day.

One of the company's most iconic products, the Hike n' Camp boot, was introduced in 1964 and became the company's best-selling boot of all time, featuring a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching. The company was purchased by a local group, including six employees, in 1988, leading to the creation of the "ThoroGard" division, which focused on high-tech occupational safety footwear.

In 2000, Weinbrenner employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan), and in 2001, the company donated 300 pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero within three days of the September 11 terror attacks, followed by an additional 200 pairs. The 1892 Heritage line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots was introduced in 2014, built on the iconic No. 60 last.

Today, Thorogood celebrates its 130th anniversary as a company, with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, Wisconsin, and the launch of the first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons. The company's commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and innovation is evident in its products, which meet or exceed industry standards for safety, slip-resistance, and electrical hazard protection.

The Thorogood product line features 100% leather, oil-tanned, full-grain leather boots in a variety of styles and colors, including tobacco brown, Trail Crazyhorse brown, black with ivory sole, and black with black sole. The boots are equipped with the MAXWEAR Wedge slip-resistant outsole, providing superior traction and impact absorption on challenging surfaces. The removable Ultimate Shock Absorption footbed further enhances comfort and cushioning for the wearer.
