The Thorogood work boots are made with 100% leather, sourced both domestically and globally, and assembled by skilled craftsmen and women at the company's US plants. The DURABLE OIL-TANNED FULL-GRAIN LEATHER used in the boots' construction ensures they are comfortable and able to withstand the demands of punishing jobs.

The boots feature the MAXWEAR WEDGE TRACTION OUTSOLE, which flexes better than other work boot outsoles, absorbing impacts and protecting the wearer's feet and ankles while working on challenging surfaces. This outsole keeps the wearer stable on flat, wet, and oily surfaces, as well as loose gravel, and it lasts longer than blown rubber outsoles. The MAXWEAR WEDGE outsole meets ASTM F3445-21 slip-resistance standards.

For electrical hazard protection, the work boots meet ASTM F2892-18 electrical hazard resistance safety standards. The REMOVABLE ULTIMATE SHOCK ABSORPTION FOOTBED, made with dual-density polyurethane concentrated under the heel and ball strike zones, absorbs impacts and wicks away moisture, providing the utmost comfort for the wearer.

The boots' GOODYEAR STORM WELT CONSTRUCTION provides superior wear resistance and a moisture seal between the upper and midsole, making them extremely dependable and long-lasting.

Thorogood's history dates back to 1892, when Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner Joseph Peffer, serving the "Jobbing" trades. In 1900, the Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was formed, and the company's first catalog was printed in 1916, highlighting its extensive leather cutting capabilities.

The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, and Weinbrenner became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army during World War I. The company took its first steps into safety footwear production in 1938 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1942, converting its operations to all-military footwear for the duration of World War II.

In 1964, Thorogood introduced the iconic Hike n' Camp boot, featuring a wedge sole and moccasin-style stitching, which became the company's best-selling boot of all time and is still available today. The company was purchased by a local group, including six employees, in 1988, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, focusing on high-tech occupational safety footwear.

In 2000, Thorogood's employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP, and in 2001, the company donated 300 pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, with an additional 200 pairs following soon after.

Today, Thorogood continues to innovate and expand its product line, celebrating 130 years as a company in 2022 with the opening of a new factory in Merrill, WI and the launch of its first western wear product, the Square Toe Wellingtons.
