Thorogood's moc toe work boot design, featuring DURABLE FULL-GRAIN LEATHER BOOTS, offers both comfort and durability for punishing jobs. Available in Tobacco (804-4208), Trail Crazyhorse (804-4478), and Midnight Black (804-6208), these boots are MADE IN THE USA with a MAXWEAR WEDGE™ TRACTION OUTSOLE that flexes better than other work boot outsoles, absorbing impacts and protecting your feet and ankles while working on difficult surfaces, keeping you on your feet on loose gravel and wet and oily surfaces. The STEEL TOE BOOTS FOR MEN meet ASTM F2413-18 safety toe standards, protecting your feet from on-site impact and compression hazards while remaining light and flexible. Additionally, the REMOVABLE ULTIMATE SHOCK ABSORPTION FOOTBED uses dual-density polyurethane concentrated under the heel and ball strike zone to absorb impacts and wick away moisture, providing the most comfortable mens work boots.
Tracing the brand's history, Albert H. Weinbrenner, at the age of 27, opened a cobblery in Milwaukee with partner Joseph Peffer in 1892, serving the "Jobbing" trades. The Albert H. Weinbrenner Co. was formed in 1900, and the company's first catalog was printed in 1916, by which time it had more leather cutting machines than any other in the U.S. The "Job-fitted" concept was introduced in 1917, and Weinbrenner became a major contributor of boots to the U.S. Army in WWI.
In 1938, the company took its first steps into safety footwear production, and during WWII, it converted to all-military footwear, producing combat and dress styles. Military footwear also became popular with civilians. In 1943, the company's workers organized under the International Boot & Shoe Workers Union, and management and workers have maintained an outstanding relationship through today.
The iconic "Hike n' Camp" boot, introduced in 1964, became the company's best-selling boot of all time and is still available in its original design. In 1988, the company was purchased by a local group, including six employees, and the "ThoroGard" division was created, featuring high-tech occupational safety footwear.
In 2000, Weinbrenner employees took ownership of the company through an ESOP, and in 2001, the company donated 300 pairs of durable work boots to Ground Zero in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, with another 200 pairs following shortly after. The "1892 Heritage" line of handcrafted, lifestyle boots was introduced in 2014, and the company celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2017, demonstrating a renewed commitment to upgrading and improving its domestic facilities, machines, equipment, manufacturing methods, and computer systems/programs.
Today, Thorogood continues to gain popularity, with sales increasing and the company launching its first western wear product, Thorogood's Square Toe Wellingtons, in 2022. The company's commitment to quality, innovation, and American craftsmanship remains steadfast as it celebrates 130 years in business.
